Walk-In Closet

Custom walk-in closets with California Closets-style storage — drawers, shelving, hanging, and islands.

Typical timeline: 2–3 weeks
Walk-In Closet
A walk-in closet is only useful if the storage matches how you actually use it. We design around your wardrobe — long-hang, double-hang, drawers for folded clothes, shoe shelves at the right depth, jewelry drawers with velvet inserts, and full-length mirrors where they belong. We build in melamine or wood veneer (matched to your bedroom trim), with soft-close drawers, LED puck lights on motion sensors, and — if you want — an island with drawers underneath and stone top.

Materials

What we install vs. what corner-cutters use.

Cabinet material

What we install

Wood veneer or high-quality melamine with edge banding.

Common shortcut

Particle board with tape-on edging.

Why it matters: low-grade materials chip, swell, and delaminate in humidity.

Hardware

What we install

Blum or Salice soft-close hinges and full-extension slides.

Common shortcut

Big-box builder hardware.

Why it matters: Blum/Salice lasts a lifetime; builder hardware fails in 5 years.

Lighting

What we install

LED puck lights with motion sensor.

Common shortcut

No lighting.

Why it matters: A dark closet defeats the whole point.

Why us

Why homeowners pick Modern Builders for walk-in closet.

We inventory your wardrobe before we design — count of long-hang, short-hang, drawers, shoes, and specialty items. That's how you get a closet that actually fits your stuff. We use full-extension soft-close drawer slides on every drawer. low-grade slides catch, don't fully extend, and slam shut. LED puck lights on motion sensors light everything up when you walk in — no fumbling for a switch.

FAQs

Answers before you ask.

How much space do I need for an island?+

36" walkway around the island — so island fits in a closet at least 8x10.

Wood or melamine?+

Melamine is durable and easy to clean. Wood veneer is warmer and matches wood bedroom furniture. Both are excellent.

Can you convert my bedroom into a closet?+

Yes — bedroom-to-closet conversions are a favorite of empty-nesters. Includes framing, electrical, and full buildout.

Do you install pull-out valet rods and belt racks?+

Yes — every specialty pull-out you can imagine.
