Whole-Home Water Filter

Whole-home carbon and chloramine filtration that removes what Houston municipal water leaves in.

Typical timeline: 1 day
Whole-Home Water Filter
Houston municipal water is safe to drink but heavy in chloramine, sediment, and dissolved organics. A whole-home carbon filter (Aquasana, Halo, Culligan) at the main service line removes chloramine, chlorine, VOCs, and sediment before it reaches every faucet, shower, and appliance. We install at the main with proper bypass valves, sediment pre-filter, and drain connection. Every install includes a pressure gauge so you know when it's time to service the media.

Materials

What we install vs. what corner-cutters use.

Media

What we install

10-year catalytic carbon (Centaur or equivalent).

Common shortcut

Standard GAC carbon.

Why it matters: Catalytic carbon removes chloramine; standard GAC only removes chlorine.

Install

What we install

Full bypass, sediment pre-filter, drain connection.

Common shortcut

Direct-connected, no bypass.

Why it matters: Bypass makes service easy; skipping it turns filter changes into water-off events.

Testing

What we install

Before/after water test provided.

Common shortcut

No testing.

Why it matters: Testing proves the unit is doing its job.

Process

A predictable path — with real durations.

1

Water test

1 hour

Test chloramine, hardness, TDS, sediment.

2

Install

3–4 hours

Cut in at main, install bypass, pre-filter, and carbon tank.

3

Startup & backwash

1 hour

Backwash media, purge fixtures, retest.

Why us

Why homeowners pick Modern Builders for whole-home water filter.

We install with a full bypass so you can service the unit without shutting off your whole house. low-grade installs skip the bypass and every filter change becomes a Saturday project. A 20" sediment pre-filter goes ahead of the carbon tank so you're not clogging premium carbon media with sand and rust flakes. We test your water before and after so you can see exactly what came out.

FAQs

Answers before you ask.

Does this soften the water?+

No — carbon removes chloramine and organics but not hardness. See our Water Softener page if you also want soft water.

How often do I service it?+

Backwashing tanks self-service. Cartridge units need pre-filter every 6–12 months. Full media replacement at 8–10 years.

Will I lose pressure?+

No — properly sized tanks add less than 2 PSI of drop.

Do I still need a drinking-water filter?+

For the highest purity at the kitchen tap, add a reverse osmosis unit (separate page).
